New York Trip

Finally made it to New York yesterday 7 July 2007. Started the trip with a ferry to Staten Island, which passes through the Statue of Liberty and also get a good glimpse of the NY Manhattan skyline. Took lot of pictures.

Then followed the visit to Wall Street and the photo session in front of the DSP ML Bull.
After this, we went to Saravana Bhavan for a good meal - Mysore Rava Masala Dosa - was spicy.
Then went to Rockefeller center - the top of the rock observatory and then to times square.
Took pictures at times square and at top of the rock observatory.
Missed the madam tussauds museum, which I should go during my next trip to NY.

Look at fractals again...

Read a couple of posts on vedanta, and hindu symbology...and this triggered my thoughts back to the link of fractals to the real world....the fractal geometry of nature... Need to get back to my thoughts on fractals...should write some good posts on fractals and their sightings in our day to day life....

Finally my digital camera

Finally, after lot of thinking, got my first digital camera - a Kodak camera 6 MP, with 10X optical zoom.. a refurbished piece for 160 USD - dropped my ideas of getting a digital SLR body, after seeing the the prices are still high (700 USD). Took some snaps with this one..looks promising...has all the photo shoot modes like aperture priority, shutter speed priority and fully manual operation...

Will take some (should be quite a lot since there are no developing and printing charges) photos and post soon....

Thoughts...

As I finished my previous writing and was wandering through the blogs, i hit upon a blog, which had the following link http://outside.away.com/outside/features/200510/yvon-chouinard-1.html The article talks of things ranging from managing a business to mountaineering to environment protection. That all these could be linked, they form an underlying knit framework is interesting.
I often think - there are 10,000 people who are born and die - what do I do differently? Need not be something world-famous, something small yet meaningful and different, something that can distinguish you from the mass, that small extra good that you can do...looks like this series of articles shows something like that...

Visit to John hancock's center - Chicago

After visiting the Museum yesterday, went to john hancock's center today. Started the day by going to devon avenue and having "adai" there. after that we visited the john hancock center - the next tallest building after the sears tower, in Chicago. We were there for sunset. Had a good view of the sunset and also the night view of lakeshore drive with cars speeding around. The Chicago cityscape fully lit with lights was another awesome view. Have captured all these on a friend's digital camera and the photos should be uploaded shortly.

Trip to Chicago Science Museum

Visited the Chicago Museum of science and industry yesterday. The BodyWorlds2 exhibition is now here and visited the same too. Has many real human bodies plastinated and helps us understand the complex human system. On display were the three smallest bones of the body, which are inside the ear. How small, even smaller than the tip of the nails, and they are the ones which are completely responsible for our hearing. The display also had specimens showing healthy lungs and lungs of a smoker showing how the body gets affected due to carcinogens and other substances. Some of the exhibits did make my head spin, like the exhibit were a human is vertically sliced, to show the various organs inside and how they are packed together within the body.
It is a revelation that the human body, whose working is taken for granted by us, is such a complex creation.
No photography allowed inside, so no photos of the exhibition.
